- Participate in local ARES Nets
- Participate as the Net Control Station for the local ARES Net
- Attend Local ARES Meetings
- Participate in actual local ARES events and or exercises
- Participate in the HF Skywarn Net (requires General Class License or higher)
- Participate as the Net Control Station for State HF Net (requires General Class License or higher)
- Make efforts to improve your communications capability and skills
- Develop an Emergency Communications "Go-Kit" for up to 4 hours operation
- Be able to assist or setup an VHF/UHF HF Communications Field Station
- Be willing to learn VHF Digital Communications
- Be a Team Member of the Local ARES unit
Level One (includes all of Basic):
- Valid Amateur Radio License of Technician Class or higher

- Complete the ARRL ARECC Level 1 Emergency Communication Course
- Complete the ARRL ARECC Level 2 Emergency Communication Course
- Complete the Red Cross combined course in Adult CPR/First Aid Basics
- Complete the Red Cross online
Introduction to Disaster Services course
- Register with Local County ARES EC
- Complete the State and/or County RACES registration and security clearance
- Participate in local and State ARES/RACES Nets
- Participate in actual local and or State ARES/RACES events and or exercises
- Make efforts to improve your communications capability and skills
- Develop and or establish an Emergency Communications "Go-Kit" for up to 12 hours operation
- Be able to setup and operate a VHF/UHF HF Communications Field Station
- Be able to setup and operate an VHF/UHF HF Digital Communications Station
- Obtain a General Class Amateur Radio License
- Complete the ARRL ARECC Level 3 Emergency Communication Course
- Volunteer to become an Assistant Emergency Coordinator (AEC)
- Volunteer to an Field Appointment of Offical Emergency Station (OES)
- Volunteer to an Field Appointment of Public Information Officer (PIO)
